Thu 24 Sep 2009, 19:00, by Dr. Shahdad Heydari, at Bistro Oxford : (Map)
The Tudors were one of the most famous families ever to rule England. They were in power from 1485, when King Henry the VII took the throne until Queen Elizabeth I died without an heir in 1603. The Tudor dynasty was marked by Henry the VIII's break with papacy in Rome (1534) and the beginning of English reformation, which after turns and trials, culminated in the establishment of the Anglican church under Elizabeth I. The period witnessed the high point of the English renaissance. In this presentation we shall review the lives and times of these colorful people and the events that shaped the world afterward.... more >>

Iranians were a major 'superpower' (and sometimes the superpower) in the ancient world for about 12 centuries. One of the main instruments for this supremacy was their armies and they maintained this upper hand through continuous development and improvement of weapons, tactics and organization. In this talk we review Armies of Ancient Iran and give brief information about these developments, along with the major events and their impact on Iran armies. These events include Greco-Persian wars, Alexander invasion, Parthian and Sassanian wars with Rome and finally the collapse of Sassanians. Of course, after the advent of Islam up to present day, Iranians continued to be a major force in the region.... more >>

About us

CaféLitt is not a place; it is a gathering of minds. We are a group of mostly Persian young students, scholars and professionals who gather every Thursday evening around 19h00 in a café to discuss various subjects and share different ideas, ranging vastly from history to science, from literature to fine arts. We started these gatherings on Jan 18th, 2007. Each week, one of us takes the responsibility of presenting a topic (in Persian, English or French) for about an hour in a subject s/he is intimately familiar with or has an expertise in. Afterwards, the evening turns into a discussion forum and all members of the audience will have an opportunity to ask their question(s) and share their points of view.
CaféLitt is open to all comments, suggestion, collaboration and new ideas. CaféLitt provides an unparalleled opportunity for learning about culture, science and philosophy in a relaxed and friendly environment, and for sharing your knowledge and expertise with like-minded members of your community.
CaféLitt is officially registered as a non-profitable group and is a nonpartisan, nonreligious and nonpolitical entity.
