Is religion a remnant of archaic way of thinking about the world or could its discourse still have a viable resonance in modern world?
Does religion have an atemporal essence and function? Is religion intrinsically violent, anti-rational, and anti-scientific? What has been the role of religion in evolution/devolution of human culture?
Whether we have religious conviction or not, it seems to be impossible to have a thorough understanding of human society, culture and history without a thorough understanding of the human's religious propensity.
This session focuses on the essence and the role of religion in modern societies. Ali Paknejad will present different viewpoints on this subject and Pasha Javadi, as the moderator of the session, will mention the critics of each viewpoint.
آیا دین باقیماندهای از روش باستانی تفکر درباره جهان است یا در جهان مدرن هم سخنش طنینی ماندگار دارد؟ نقش دین در تکامل/تحول فرهنگ بشر چه بوده است؟ آیا دین در ذات خشن، ضدمنطق و ضدعلم است؟
چه اعتقادات دینی داشته باشیم باشیم و چه نداشته باشیم، به نظر غیرممکن میآید که بدون فهم کاملی از گرایش انسان به مذهب بتوان فهم کاملی از جامعه، فرهنگ و تاریخ بشر به دست آورد.
محوریت این جلسه نقش دین در جامعه مدرن خواهد بود. علی پاکنژاد دیدگاههای مرتبط با این موضوع را مطرح خواهد کرد و پاشا جوادی ضمن گردانندگی جلسه، نقدهای وارد به این دیدگاهها را بر خواهد شمرد.

علی پاکنژاد بیست سال گذشته عضو گروههای مطالعاتی مختلف بوده است. او اینک مشغول تحصیل فلسفه در دانشگاه مونترال است.
پاشا جوادی فارغالتحصیل دکترای علوم اعصاب، از فعالان اجتماعی-فرهنگی مونترال و یکی از پایهگذاران کافهلیت در پاریس و مونترال است.
